Duck Time

I am staying at my parent’s house this weekend, upstate. They are spending the weekend on their boat, so I am at home with their dog, Ceili. At night she will carry a toy around, usually a stuffed one, today her sock monkey, and cry and cry. She looks for a place to hide it and most times you have to help her. Tonight I made a little fort out of pillows and put a blanket across the top. This is where she hid the sock monkey.
I really like to google: “How does this…Why does this…What does this mean…” kind of questions. Usually the first answers to show up on my search results are Yahoo!Answers, which we all know are the real-deal-information-central of the interweb.
So tonight I googled: “Why does my dog carry her toy and cry and try to hide it?” I got lots of answers. One person wrote that their dog carries around a stuffed duck and cries and can not be consoled in anyway. They just have to let her work it out on her own. They explained that they now refer to these incidences as “duck time”.
Maybe it is the couple of Mike’s Hard Raspberry lemonades I stole from my parents beer fridge, maybe not, but I cannot stop laughing at the phrase “duck time”.
